The State of the Sump Pump Industry: Navigating Challenges with Resilience and Redundancy

In the world of home protection, we often talk about "the perfect storm." Usually, we mean a record-breaking rainfall hitting an aging infrastructure. But today, the perfect storm isn't just in the weather forecast—it’s in the global economy. The past five years the sump pump industry, like many industries have seen unprecedented challenges including tariff fluctuations, pandemic induced logistics challenges, material shortages, and cost increases. To meet these challenges Glentronics has diversified its supply chain to meet the ever-present demand for sump pumps. Think about this, “what if” there were no sump pumps available to pump water out of basements and crawlspaces. Our homes and businesses would flood from the bottom up.

How we did it, A Strategy of Duplicity (and Triplicate)

Since 2016, shifting global dynamics have highlighted the risks of concentrating production within a single region. Recognizing these vulnerabilities early on, Glentronics—manufacturer of the Pro Series line of pumps and accessories—proactively migrated and diversified our manufacturing footprint across multiple domestic and international hubs.

To ensure uninterrupted service, we have implemented a robust strategy, increased inventory, and cloned production capabilities for core products. This ensures that:

  • Diversified Production: Our new manufacturing facilities are spread across stable regions.
  • Built-in Redundancy: Our original facilities remain fully tooled and operational, serving as a critical backup to meet surges in demand.
  • Domestic Strength: We have expanded our USA production facilities, where final assembly and rigorous testing take place to ensure every unit is ready for immediate shipment.

While the current industry trend is to "wait and see," Glentronics remains "ready and waiting." We maintain a four-to-six-month inventory of finished goods and an even deeper reserve of raw materials domestically, ensuring we can support our partners regardless of global market fluctuations.

Prepared for Sustained Growth

Despite the economic turbulence, all indicators show that our industry is poised for sustained, significant growth. Increased rainfall frequency more frequent power outages and the expansion of the construction market have created a permanent demand for reliable water management.

To accommodate growing staff and inventory of our increasing number of models and customers, we are completing the addition second building to accommodate our expanding operations and ensure we have the footprint required for the future. We are poised for big growth because we’ve done the heavy lifting to prepare for it.

A Legacy of Innovation: The Schulman Way

This commitment to "the backup plan" is in our DNA. Glentronics was born in the mid-80s from an idea and a dream by our founder, Alan Schulman.

Alan saw a fundamental flaw in the industry: most sump pumps only protected homes if everything went exactly right. He knew that for a basement to stay dry, the battery, the pump, and the power conditions all had to work together. Driven to build a "better mousetrap," he created the first monitoring system that alerted homeowners before a catastrophe occurred. This started 35 years ago with The Basement Watchdog®, the original retail line that pioneered the battery backup market for homeowners three decades ago.

Pro Series Pumps were launched 25 years ago specifically with the wholesaler and professional contractor in mind. The Pro Series brand concept remains the same. Industrial-grade, premium components, robust and reliable products.

As a family business run by Alan and son Jeff, we continue the legacy of "Intelligent Design." For over 35 years, we have evolved from a single idea into a brand that commands a massive portion of the world market for backup, combination, and primary sump pump systems. We have never forgotten who we serve—families who depend on us to keep their basements dry.

The Bottom Line

It is a chaotic time, but chaos presents an opportunity for those who are prepared. By bolstering our supply chain, diversifying our global footprint, and maintaining deep domestic reserves, we have turned uncertainty into an advantage.

The industry is growing, and we have the inventory, the infrastructure, and the innovation to lead the way. At Glentronics, we don't just provide a pump; we provide peace of mind—no matter what the "state of the world" looks like.
